WMCA Applauds Milwaukee Alderman Alex Brower for Introducing Resolution Calling for the Release of Salah Sarsour
April 19, 2026 - Milwaukee, Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance (WMCA) welcomes and strongly supports Milwaukee Alderman Alex Brower’s introduction of a resolution calling for the immediate release of Salah Sarsour and affirming his right to due process.
The resolution is set to be introduced for immediate adoption at the Milwaukee Common Council meeting on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at 9:00 AM, reflecting the urgency of a situation that continues to evolve and deeply impact our community.
Salah Sarsour is a respected community leader, a lawful permanent resident of over three decades, and a devoted member of the Milwaukee community. His detention has raised serious concerns about due process, constitutional protections, and the potential misuse of immigration enforcement.
“We are grateful to Alderman Brower for his leadership in standing up for justice and due process,” said Fauzia Qureshi, Executive Director of WMCA. “At a time when many are watching and waiting, this action sends a clear message that Milwaukee stands for fairness, constitutional rights, and the protection of its residents.”
The resolution highlights critical concerns, including the use of a rarely invoked legal provision and allegations tied to events from decades ago, while affirming the fundamental rights that all individuals are entitled to under the Constitution.
WMCA urges the Milwaukee Common Council to adopt this resolution and calls on elected officials at all levels to speak out in defense of due process and against the targeting of community members based on their identity or advocacy.
This moment is about more than one individual—it is about the principles that define our democracy. Milwaukee must continue to stand on the side of justice, fairness, and human dignity.
