Civic Stories: Past, Present, and Future

Civic Stories: Past, Present, and Future A Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance Project

In the final weeks of 2025, we are inviting every Wisconsinite, Muslim and non-Muslim, young and old, lifelong resident and new arrival, to share a short, real story about democracy and civic life.

Your first election. A local issue you fought for. Helping someone register to vote. What you hope civic participation looks like in 20 years.

No speeches. No essays. Just your voice.

All stories will live here permanently as a free digital archive for future generations.

Submissions close December 31, 2025.

The Stories So Far

“I remember voting in my very first election after I turned 18. I realized the importance of this action as it held consequences regarding the future of the United States. Now that I am more involved in the civic engagement process, my hope is that diverse communities feel empowered and supported as they make decisions about voting and participate in decisions that impact not only their lives, but also the lives of their neighbors and fellow citizens. When everyone is able to use their voice, meaningful change can occur on issues on the local, state, and federal levels. Organizing communities and engaging others in the civic process can lead to a more equitable society moving forward.”

“Last year, I had the privilege of helping a community member who had just become a U.S. citizen register to vote for the first time. She was a little nervous but so eager to participate, and we walked through the process together.

On Election Day, she sent me a photo of her ‘I Voted’ sticker with the biggest smile. She told me how proud she felt walking into the polling place as a new voter. Moments like that remind me why this work matters—every new voter strengthens our community and our democracy.”
